Rockcoco Fans commissioned to create a bespoke ladies’ hand fan for HRH the Duchess of Sussex
Liveryman Denise Frankel and Janis Sher, founders of Rockcoco Fine Fans, the City of London’s first bespoke fan makers for over 100 years, were honoured to be specially commissioned by the Worshipful Company of Fan Makers to create a bespoke ladies’ hand fan for HRH the Duchess of Sussex following her marriage to HRH the Duke of Sussex.
It has been a long-held tradition of the Worshipful Company of Fan Makers to present senior royal brides with a hand fan on the occasion of their marriage. This fan was presented to the Duchess of Sussex at Kensington Palace on the 19th of March 2019.
The fuchsia pink, double-sided fan leaves are made of exquisitely hand crafted, finest pure silk Duchess satin with Chantilly lace appliqué. The fan frame is created from ethically sourced mother-of-pearl which is finely engraved and gilded in 9 carat rose and yellow gold leaf. The front guard is gilded with an M for Megan and H for Harry, the double monogram of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. The reverse side of the frame is engraved with the name of The Worshipful Company of Fan Makers and the Company crest which is gilded in 9 carat yellow gold. A sparkling pink sapphire is nestled in a setting of 9 carat rose gold which sits elegantly in the centre of the hand fan which slips beautifully into its own bespoke, pure silk satin pocket.
This unique fan is suitably stored in a beautifully designed, hand-turned wood casket created by a renowned Turner from a single piece of spalted sweet chestnut, from Merton College, Oxford.
When creating a bespoke fan Rockcoco Fine Fans work closely with their clients, using only the most luxurious and quality materials and sourcing the specialist craftsman for each stage of the fan’s development.
